Premier journal imprimé de l’histoire, Relation paraît en 1605 à Strasbourg, alors ville du Saint Empire germanique, un siècle et demi après la création de l’imprimerie par Gutenberg en 1450 à Mayence. Relation est un hebdomadaire de quatre pages, lancé à l’initiative de l’imprimeur Johann Carolus, qui édite en allemand les dépêches ("Avisen") venues de plusieurs grandes villes européennes (Cologne, Rome, Venise, Vienne et Prague).
